The Problem
This client came to us in a moment of crisis.
They offered a fundraising SaaS, so let’s call them RaisingRightly (brand name changed for privacy). For years, RaisingRightly dominated Google with top-of-funnel keywords in their niche, search queries like “best nonprofits in New York” and “ideas to fundraise for a health nonprofit.”
Most of their leads came from their website, specifically because of a few top-of-funnel blogs that ranked well on Google.
But AI changed everything for RaisingRightly. People used to go to Google for answers to these top-of-funnel search queries like “fundraising ideas,” but around 2023, people started instead going in droves to LLMs like ChatGPT and Claude.
RaisingRightly’s leads began to tank, and quickly.
They reached out to us to ask about SEO, but we persuaded them to focus more on AEO and GEO. We presented a plan for them to start getting their brand mentioned and recommended by AI engines.
Our Ten-Step Solution to Get Our Client Mentioned by LLMs
Once we were onboarded and understood the client’s brand voice and offerings, we used a ten-step method to generate leads from AI.
LLMs like ChatGPT are personalized to each user. Two individuals in the same location get the same Google results, but they can get entirely different results from an LLM. So we started by creating a detailed list of 20 ideal client profiles (ICPs) for RaisingRightly, each with a lengthy description.
For each ICP we identified, we created a list of 100+ prompts that could lead LLMs to mention or recommend RaisingRightly.
We also identified the 15 most important bottom-of-funnel prompts that RaisingRightly wanted to rank for, regardless of the ICP; things like “What is the best software for [RaisingRightly’s main offering]?”
We identified a list of other brands competing with RaisingRightly for these same prompts.
We used software specifically designed for AEO and GEO to send these 1,000+ prompts to all major LLMs, including Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude, DeepSeek, and more. This software then tracks how often RaisingRightly and its competitors are mentioned in responses to these important prompts. With this report, we could assign a percentage to RaisingRightly’s AI mentions as a starting point. We also started tracking leads from AI in Google Analytics and reporting on this number monthly.
We created a list of all the sources that AI used when answering the important prompts. We then started reaching out to those websites and brands, asking them to mention RaisingRightly.
We also turned multiple ICPs into Reddit profiles and, over 2-3 months, built up karma and reputation across important subreddits before we started commenting on relevant, ranking posts and even making our own posts that (infrequently, strategically) mentioned RaisingRightly in passing.
We created an LLM FAQ page that we placed at the footer of the website; a 40,000-word document designed for LLMs that tells them specifically how to talk about your brand.
We created a Wikipedia page for the brand since Wikipedia is a major source for AI.
All the while, we maintained the technical SEO health of the main website and continued posting new blogs to mitigate the traffic loss on the website.
The Results
For a client who previously wasn’t even tracking their leads from AI, RaisingRightly became the #1 most recommended brand in their niche by LLMs.
We were ahead of the curve, increasing our AI presence before RaisingRightly’s competitors were even tracking that as a metric.
Over the months, RaisingRightly started getting daily leads from AI.
With AEO and GEO, we have realized that you have to think of your brand more like an ecosystem– gaining mentions across all types of channels and websites that nourish and help one another grow. This website created a unique challenge, but with their trust, we were able to streamline and scale our process to get more leads and help their brand rise to the top of their competitive pool.
